Morgan’s first film score was also the debut for the film’s director, Hiroaki Yoshida, who had previously, with his TYO Film Company, created hundreds of Japan’s finest TV commercials. This film, entitled "Twilight of the Cockroaches" masterfully combined animation and live action in a moving story that likened the cockroaches (the animated characters) to the Japanese people, surviving the onslaught of the US invasion (the human actors). Yoshida gave Morgan a completely free hand to create the music as he felt it. For the album release, the songs were extended and featured three special guests, the renowned Japanese musicians Yas-Kaz (percussion), Hajime Mizoguchi (cello) and Cano Caori (vocals). A mostly acoustic album, this shows how Morgan could turn his hand to creating a subtle and melodic kind of modern chamber music.
